SMART board troubleshooting

Sometimes your SMART board (different from your projector) will not respond to touch or will not allow the pens to write. If you encounter this, try these troubleshooting steps to see if the issue can be resolved:

  • Power-cycle the board. Sometimes all the SMART board needs to be restarted - some boards have a power connector that plugs into the wall electrical, and some are powered from a USB port.
  • Restart your laptop. Sometimes when your laptop is removed from the dock while powered on, then put back on the dock, the SMART software will not 'see' the board properly. A restart of the SMART services or your laptop will often resolve this.
  • Make sure the USB wire from your board is properly connected. Sometimes students will inadvertently pull this out, or the extension will come unplugged. Depending on the type of board you have, there should either be a solid green or solid white light on the pen tray when everything is properly connected.
  • If all else fails, please let Matt H. know you are having some issues with the board.
